Over the course of our membership year (Sept 1 to Aug 31):

  • as a new member, you will receive a welcome package including a guide to tracing your family tree and documenting your evidence with the resources available in our area and beyond. Both novice genealogists and experienced newcomers to our vicinity will find it helpful.
  • 9 informative and entertaining meetings with friendly people of diverse talents and skills, all pursuing the discovery, preservation and illustration of family histories; you will learn and have fun!
  • 1-day group rate excursion in spring or summer to a venue relevant to our purpose. Recent ones have included Pickering Museum Village and a historical musical/drama at the 4th Line Theatre. 
  • 3 issues of our electronic newsletter Links, nominally 10 pages.

  • membership in our private, online LGS Members group with access to the online archive of all issues of Links since 1987, LGS photo gallery and other resources
  • other communications that will keep you abreast of events of possible interest to genealogists and family historians
  • register your research interests in our Members' Interests database, published on the Internet for search opportunities and possible discovery of connections 
  • volunteer opportunities to conduct research for inquirers from afar and generate revenue for the Society
  • enjoy the social reward from helping promote family tree and history research to young and less young alike through a heritage event
  • take advantage of the growth in our Public Library resources from prior and ongoing Society donations 
  • borrow materials from the LGS Collection held in the Local History Room of the Cobourg Public Library (non-members may view but not borrow)
